Germany – Structural Planning Services – Renovation of the Apen Sports Hall

The two-field hall in the municipality of Apen is undergoing extensive renovation to ensure that both school and club sports can continue to thrive in Apen. The three-stream primary school in Apen makes intensive use of the hall, as does the adjacent kindergarten and the largest sports club in the municipality, TV Apen 1893 e.V., which has over 800 members. Since the 1980s, no significant renovation measures have been carried out. Due to penetrating moisture from the roof areas, renovation is unavoidable. The renovation will be carried out comprehensively according to new standards. Furthermore, the upgrade will meet the requirements of an assembly hall to allow for additional uses beyond sports. The sports hall is also used for club sports, making it regionally utilized for competitive sports. In the absence of a city/community hall, the sports hall is also used for other purposes, such as music events or bicycle fairs. The building will be remodeled/renovated to enable the use of renewable energies: - Changing the roof shape to a flat roof with PV systems and green roof areas where possible, - Creating technical rooms for the integration of renewable system technology, - Remodeling the heating distribution system to a surface system to allow for lower flow temperatures, - Using wooden components where structurally sensible and possible, - Using sustainable building materials, - Using recyclable building materials. According to an initial cost estimate, the construction costs (KG 300 + 400) amount to approximately 3.2 million EUR net.
