Construction Works for the Generations Quarter in Essen

The "Generations Quarter" project is located in District IV, Bochold. The area is surrounded by residential buildings to the north, east, and south, while a commercial zone lies to the west across Jahnstraße. To the south, there is the main school complex of Bochold. The project area includes municipal land for a sports field, a running track, a gymnasium, two developed plots, and a green space on Jahnstraße. The city of Essen plans to implement several projects within this area, which covers approximately 26,800 m2. The Urban Development and Planning Committee has approved a pilot project for an innovative "Generations Quarter" at the sports field on Germaniastraße. The goal is to develop and implement a neighborhood concept that is "age-appropriate, social, and communal," integrating the diverse interests and needs of different generations to foster social cohesion while allowing individuals enough personal space. The development plan "Jahnstraße / Germaniastraße (Generations Quarter)" No. 09 / 18 came into effect with the resolution on May 12, 2023, and includes the following projects: 1. Construction of the Borbeck indoor swimming pool 2. Construction of a two-court sports hall 3. Construction of a four-group daycare center 4. Construction of a neighborhood square and renovation of an existing playground 5. Construction of a residential area 6. Implementation of necessary infrastructure (utility lines, roads, and pedestrian and bike paths). The GVE is responsible for executing the project for the Sports and Swimming Facilities of Essen. The project task and goal is the general planning and execution of soil remediation for the entire project area. This procurement procedure concerns the earthworks for soil management.
