    Brief

This project seeks genetic analysis of Ludwigia (water primrose) populations in England to support the national eradication programme and inform potential biological control strategies. Water primrose is a high-priority invasive species that spreads rapidly, forms dense mats, outcompetes native aquatic plants, and damages freshwater ecosystems. The UK has a legal commitment under retained EU Regulation 1143/2014 to eradicate this species. While physical and chemical control methods exist, this research will enhance understanding of the species' genetics, origins, and spread pathways, enabling better biosecurity measures and targeted Pathway Action Plans. Suppliers should have expertise in molecular analysis, population genetics, and invasive species research. The project outcomes will directly inform national management strategies and may support development of biological control approaches.
