Cable Thermal Rating and Specialist Calculation Platform for Electricity Transmission

National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) is seeking market solutions to replace or enhance its cable thermal rating and calculation capabilities. The organization currently operates several in-house engineering tools: RoCiT (tunnel cable thermal modelling), DRY (direct burial calculations), THORIN (backfill modelling for non-standard geometries), and RAUROS (water-cooled cable systems). This Request for Information invites suppliers to demonstrate software solutions that can support these functions and provide broader rating enhancements for complex installation environments. NGET is evaluating supplier experience in cable thermal modelling, product maturity and proven utility deployment, flexible commercial models (including licensing and modular pricing options), secure architecture suitable for Critical National Infrastructure, implementation approaches, and the availability of integrated or modular solutions. The successful solution must deliver transparent, auditable, and reproducible engineering calculations while supporting long-term maintenance, extensibility, and compliance with evolving operational and regulatory requirements. NGET will use supplier responses to inform its future sourcing strategy and determine the appropriate mix of product-based, configurable, bespoke, or hybrid approaches.
