    Brief

The Rhein-Mosel-Eifel Waste Management Association (AZV) operates the central landfill at Eiterköpfe, located near the municipalities of Ochtendung, Plaidt, and Saffig. Since 1983, untreated municipal waste and household-like waste were deposited at this landfill until 2005. Following a ban on the disposal of untreated municipal waste, only predominantly mineral and inert residual materials have been deposited since mid-2005. The collected municipal waste and other separately collected fractions are now unloaded from collection vehicles into trucks at the landfill and then transported to the respective facilities for further waste treatment. Currently, waste handling for residual waste, bulky waste, organic waste, and construction and demolition waste from the AZV's area is taking place at open transfer facilities on the landfill body in areas DA 4.1, 5, and 6. Due to the impending filling of these landfill sections due to the depletion of alternative disposal areas, these facilities need to be relocated. Additionally, future waste handling will take place indoors rather than outdoors, ensuring a significant reduction in emissions.
