Construction of Waste Collection Facility in Düsseldorf

The University Hospital Düsseldorf is planning to construct a central waste collection facility at the site of the existing building 18.15. This facility will consist of a rectangular structure measuring 56 x 56.50 meters, surrounded by a perforated metal facade. The building will feature an open courtyard, with an L-shaped two-story installation arranged around it. The construction will be made of reinforced concrete, while the partially covered courtyard will be built using steel construction methods. Vehicle access will be provided through large entrance and exit gates, and pedestrian access will be through a stairwell with a hydraulic elevator located within the two-story installation. The building will be constructed over existing underground channels (including a media tunnel and a channel for automatic goods transport) and a partially demolished bunker facility, resulting in a complex foundation situation involving a system of columns, wall-like beams, and floor slabs. The building will have a connection to the automatic goods transport channel in the basement and a unloading station on the ground floor. All load-bearing walls will be made of reinforced concrete, while non-load-bearing interior walls will be constructed from 24 cm aerated concrete, and interior walls in sanitary areas will be built using lightweight construction methods.
