5G Technology for Traffic Management in Brno

This public procurement contract is co-financed through the second call for Demonstrative Applications of 5G Network Ecosystems for Smart Cities, Municipalities, and Regions, as part of the National Recovery Plan. The project, titled 'Utilization of 5G Network for a New C-ITS Service for Regulating Access to the Historical Center of Brno,' aims to deliver a comprehensive technical solution for managing vehicle access to the historical center of Brno using 5G networks and C-ITS services. The main goal is to implement a new C-ITS service for managing access to defined urban zones, allowing dynamically adjusted entry conditions based on traffic conditions, time of day, and other criteria. Equipped vehicles will directly control entry infrastructure, such as automatic bollards, without needing remote intervention from a central dispatch. Information about entry conditions and geographic area definitions will be sent to C-ITS-equipped vehicles, enabling drivers to choose optimal routes. The contract includes the supply of Road Side Units (RSUs) with the implemented access management service, cooperating with existing C-ITS back office systems. It also involves upgrading existing bollards and implementing RSUs at 13 locations in the historical center of Brno, as well as equipping a test vehicle with an On Board Unit (OBU) and relevant software to demonstrate the service. The main components of the contract include the modernization of the automatic bollard system, purchasing C-ITS technology elements, installation and commissioning of RSUs, software for RSUs, integration and configuration of the application solution, and ensuring compliance with relevant standards. The contract requires a comprehensive functional ecosystem of technologies, support services, and effective 5G connectivity to meet the approved project objectives and technical specifications.
