Consultancy Services for Integrated Catchment Management Plans in Lesotho

The Government of Lesotho, supported by the European Union (EU) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), is launching the "National Programme for Integrated Catchment Management (ReNoka)". This initiative aims to restore degraded watersheds and implement measures to prevent further degradation of catchment areas in Lesotho. The sustainable management of these catchments is crucial for ensuring water, land, energy, and food security in Lesotho and the broader Orange-Senqu Basin, which includes Gauteng Province, a key economic area in Southern Africa. The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) has been tasked with implementing a technical cooperation project to support the ReNoka initiative. The main goal of this project is to facilitate socio-economic development and climate change adaptation in Lesotho through integrated catchment management. Specific objectives include establishing a gender-sensitive and climate-resilient policy framework, creating effective institutions for catchment management, enhancing the capacity of various stakeholders, implementing catchment management measures, and strengthening coordination and management capabilities. Lesotho is divided into six Catchment Management Areas (CMAs) to aid in the planning and management of its river basins. This contract seeks consultancy services to develop Integrated Catchment Management and Development Plans (ICMDPs) for four CMAs: Upper Senqu, Lower Senqu, Central Mohokare, and Lower Mohokare. Two ICMDPs have already been completed for the Upper Mohokare and Makhaleng CMAs. The deadline for submitting proposals is October 10, 2025.
