Geotechnical Investigations for Loviisa Maritime Channel

The project involves conducting geotechnical investigations in the Loviisa maritime channel, specifically at a depth of 9.5 meters. The purpose of these investigations is to assess the soil conditions for the construction planning of channel deepening. The work will include drilling (using both core and rotary drilling methods), soil sampling, and laboratory testing of samples. There is an option for sediment sampling as well. The work will be performed from a work platform that can support itself at a maximum depth of approximately 20 meters, with a maximum drilling depth of 16.5 meters. The investigations aim to determine the location of bedrock and soil layer boundaries, as well as soil types and their dredging feasibility. Sediment samples will also be collected from the planning area (optional). The planned dredging level for the outer part of the channel is -13.0 meters and -12.4 meters for the inner part. A detailed description of the work and requirements is provided in the tender documents and its annexes. The geotechnical investigation program is also attached to the tender. A maximum budget of €230,000 (excluding the option) has been set for the procurement. Investigations will be conducted up to this budget at unit prices. The decision to exercise the option will be made separately. The work is to be completed in the fall of 2025. The procurement will comply with the Public Procurement Act (1397/2016). The procurement will be conducted using an open procedure as per the procurement law. This is a service procurement exceeding the EU threshold value. One consulting contract will be tendered. The buyer's procurement documents are available in Finnish. Bids and their attachments must be submitted in Finnish. A prior notice was published on July 10, 2025. The procurement will be conducted using an expedited procedure (15 days for bid evaluation) due to urgency. The research work in the maritime area needs to commence as soon as possible, as marine weather conditions often become challenging in the fall.
