The project involves the renovation and restructuring of the Bröhan Museum in Berlin, including facade restoration. The work includes the reorganization, expansion, renovation, and modernization of the museum, which is owned by the State of Berlin – Special Fund Real Estate of the State of Berlin (SILB). Under the leadership of the client, the Senate Department for Culture and Europe, in collaboration with the Bröhan Museum and the Berlin Real Estate Management GmbH (BIM) as the construction service provider, a needs assessment for the restructuring and expansion of the museum has been developed. This assessment outlines the current user needs and the necessary construction investments. The Bröhan Museum is a state museum in Berlin focusing on Art Nouveau, Art Deco, and Functionalism. Founded in 1973 by art collector Karl H. Bröhan, it has significantly contributed to the rediscovery of art from the period of 1889 to 1939. Together with neighboring museums – the Scharf-Gerstenberg Collection completed in 2008, the Berggruen Museum, and Charlottenburg Palace – the Bröhan Museum forms the prestigious "Charlottenburg Museum Quarter," attracting an international audience. The listed building was constructed as a barracks in 1892-93 and has been repurposed multiple times for different uses (including finance and labor offices, exhibitions, and laboratories). In 1983, the Bröhan Museum initially occupied spaces on the ground floor and gradually took over available areas. With the planned departure of the Rathgen Research Laboratory from the second floor in 2022, the museum will finally be able to utilize the entire building.
