Brief

The City of Amsterdam is seeking contractors for the third phase of the Healthy School Buildings program, initiated in 2015. This program aims to ensure that children in Amsterdam receive education in a healthy learning environment with adequate fresh air and low CO2 levels. Research has shown that a healthy indoor climate enhances the performance of both students and teachers and reduces health complaints. The municipality is investing alongside school boards in effective ventilation systems for classrooms in primary education, special education, and secondary education. The goal is to ensure that all school buildings in Amsterdam meet the standards for healthy school buildings as outlined in the Fresh Schools Program requirements. New installations will adhere to the national Fresh Schools Class B standard, while existing installations will meet Class C standards. Although new or upgraded ventilation systems may incur higher energy and maintenance costs, these will be offset by sustainability measures, ensuring that school boards do not face additional expenses after the upgrades.
