Modernization of Heating Center at Klinikum am Europakanal

The Bezirkskliniken Mittelfranken are planning a restructuring of the hospital area as part of the "General Expansion Planning at Klinikum am Europakanal" in Erlangen. This includes the modernization of the existing heating center. Due to the insolvency of the previously contracted architectural firm, the following services for building and interior planning need to be re-tendered. In 2003, a central wood chip heating plant was built on the premises by a third party. The building was transferred to Bezirkskliniken in 2023 after 20 years of use and will be utilized in the restructuring of the energy supply for the new hospital. As part of the design planning, a combined heat and power (CHP) plant with the corresponding burner units has been conceptualized as part of the new energy center. The required burner room with operational technical facilities will be separated from the existing wood chip storage hall by a reinforced concrete wall, and a "house within a house" is planned under the existing roof. The enclosed space will consist of core-insulated sandwich panels and will meet the physical and technical minimum requirements (minimum temperature 10°C, insulation to prevent condensation). The north facade will be additionally clad with trapezoidal sheet metal, similar to the existing facade. Inside the building, the new ventilation and gas fire systems will be organized on two levels, with steel platforms for installation and steel frames for the routing of pipes. The existing wood chip boiler will be renovated, and adjustments to the boiler house will be of minor scope. Additionally, a new wood chip boiler will be installed, and a heat pump will be integrated. The services for building and interior planning are in accordance with §§ 33 ff. HOAI LPH 5. The milestones for project implementation are as follows: - Start LP 5: immediately after commissioning. The total project costs (KG 200-600) are estimated at approximately €8.1 million gross, broken down as follows: Cost calculation gross as of April 2025: KG 200: approx. €183,260; KG 300: approx. €1,312,113; KG 400: approx. €5,772,556.
