Germany – Molecular Biology Automation for Real-Time PCR Testing

The laboratory at LGA serves as the technical lead for the Public Health Service (ÖGD) in Baden-Württemberg, supporting health authorities in combating HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). In the 38 counseling centers for HIV/AIDS and other STIs, which are part of the health authorities, anonymous counseling and free STI testing are offered. Samples are sent to the LGA laboratory for diagnostics. This large device will be used to analyze samples for HIV/AIDS and other STIs. The testing process includes sample purification, nucleic acid extraction, amplification, and pathogen detection. The testing service, especially for Chlamydia (CT) and Gonorrhea (GN), is highly utilized, with 25,000 to 30,000 samples analyzed annually at LGA. The device must be continuously operable with a throughput of over 250 samples in 8 hours and can be replenished with reagents and wash buffers during operation. Reagents are typically ordered monthly. Expected sample volume includes: - 25,000 samples/year for CT and NG, - 400 samples/year for Hepatitis C, if the screening test is positive. Due to the high demand for laboratory services, there are plans to expand diagnostics to include additional STIs such as Mycoplasma genitalium, Trichomonas vaginalis, and Hepatitis B. The device will be offered under a supply contract for reagents.
