Germany – Medium Voltage Switchgear for Large Heat Storage Facility

The client, Stadtwerke Lemgo GmbH, is planning to construct an atmospheric heat storage facility with a volume of approximately 15,000 m³ and a cylindrical height of 49.5 m at the Liemer Weg site in Lemgo. Additional components will be built in a separate building at the site, including a large air-water heat pump (approximately 3.5 MWth), a heat collector system (approximately 2.4 MWth), two electric boiler systems (approximately 5 MW), electrical and control technology, pipelines, pumps, and fittings, as well as other ancillary facilities. All systems will be newly constructed. The entire scope will be tendered in lots (see Part A). Nearby, there are already renewable heat generators (solar thermal system, wastewater heat pump). The heat generation will exceed the network's heat demand depending on conditions. The heat storage will utilize the excess heat generated and increase the yield of renewable producers by decoupling heat generation and consumption in time. Another function of the storage is to maintain the static pressure for the district heating network through the water level's static height. In the future, the new large heat storage will be the central control element for the entire district heating network. The demand-oriented control of the entire heat supply into the central district heating network of Lemgo will be managed through this storage. The height and location are dictated by operational requirements. The commissioning of the entire facility is planned for September 2026, with an award in July 2025. This procurement procedure (EU procurement procedure (Part 2)) concerns the construction of an electric boiler system (Lot 4), plant technology (Lot 5), electrical engineering (Lot 6), and medium voltage systems (Lot 8).
