Germany – Steel Scrap Collection and Disposal

This contract involves the collection, processing, and recycling of steel scrap from the dismantling of dolphins (support structures) as part of the Rethe fairway adjustment project. The project includes the construction and dismantling of dolphins near the Rethe double-leaf bridge, with construction expected to start in late July 2025. The dolphins and their components are considered hazardous waste due to the presence of harmful substances (such as asbestos) in their coatings, and they must be disposed of safely and sustainably. The coated steel scrap will be stripped of its coating to produce recyclable steel and significantly reduce the amount of contaminated material that needs to be permanently landfilled. This service contract focuses on the proper recycling of the steel scrap material with hazardous coatings from the dismantled dolphins and their components. Note that the dismantling of the dolphins from the fairway is not included in this service contract. The services have already been awarded.
