    Brief

Defra Self-Service Direct Award opportunity to advance research on winter water capture and storage solutions for lowland peat ecosystems. This programme builds on significant prior research including Lowland Peat 3 Work Package 1 (LP3 WP1), the Pump Drained Lowland Peat water balance study, LP3+, and the Water Table Assessment in Lowland Agricultural Peat (WTAP) programme. These foundational studies identified two interconnected challenges that currently limit confidence in the feasibility of maintaining raised water tables on lowland peat. This opportunity aims to develop quantified requirements for winter water capture and storage systems to address these identified constraints and improve the practical implementation of peat management strategies. Suppliers should have expertise in hydrology, water resource management, peat ecosystem science, or agricultural engineering.
