    Brief

The University of Bern is launching a significant initiative titled 'Fit for Future' to address major challenges such as outdated infrastructure, evolving demands for teaching, research, and collaboration, and the need for flexible work arrangements including remote work and home office options. This program will focus on twelve key areas, including university structures, digital transformation, space shortages, employment conditions, and new workplace concepts. Within the 'Workplace Concepts' area, the Department of Construction and Space is developing a workplace concept called 'büroUNIversum' based on Personality Based Working. This concept will address changing work forms, flexibility in location and time, and the increasing diversity of tasks in study, teaching, research, service, administration, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The needs of individual organizational units and users will be assessed to create a tailored zoning, space allocation, and furnishing plan. The changing conditions in the workplace regarding working hours and workplace models have prompted the canton to define new area guidelines. Given the increasing space shortages and limited financial resources, there is a demand for measuring and regulating the occupancy of spaces. This requires the University of Bern to maintain statistics on the occupancy of rooms and workspaces. To implement the workplace concept, a room and workspace booking tool is needed that intuitively supports the use cases. It should not only meet the requirements of the büroUNIversum project but also be applicable in a broader university context.
