Community Action Program: PeacePlus Reimage-Recycle

Derry City and Strabane District Council is seeking suppliers to participate in the PeacePlus Reimage-Recycle project. This initiative, lasting approximately one year, aims to engage 80 adults in a cross-community effort focused on recycling, upcycling, and promoting zero waste. The primary area of focus is the Foyleside District Electoral Area, but the project will also foster connections with other communities in the wider city and district to ensure a balanced cross-community approach. While the program is open to all, it will specifically target collaboration with Men’s and Hen’s Sheds in the Foyleside community, as well as outreach to adults with learning or physical disabilities, mental health challenges, individuals from Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) backgrounds, refugees, and asylum seekers. The project emphasizes inclusion and understanding of diverse needs and identities, making reasonable adjustments to ensure equal access to participation. Participants will learn skills to transform discarded items from local recycling centers or their own belongings into useful new products. The project will also include informal dialogue opportunities to foster friendships and share life experiences. Some upcycling efforts will focus on reimagining bonfire materials such as pallets and cable reels. Any products created will be donated to support local community groups or individuals in need, rather than being sold. This initiative is part of the Thriving and Peaceful Communities Theme and aims to bring significant benefits to the Foyleside District Electoral Area.
