    Brief

Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council is seeking qualified contractors to remove and control invasive Rhododendron Ponticum across a 50-hectare area at Peatlands Park Special Area of Conservation (SAC) in County Armagh. This project is funded through the PEAT+ programme, a cross-border initiative supported by the Special EU Programmes Body, aimed at restoring peatlands, protecting biodiversity, and mitigating climate change across Northern Ireland and border counties in Ireland. The work involves the complete eradication of non-native invasive Rhododendron species from the designated control area to restore the site's ecological value. Contractors must be experienced in invasive species management, environmentally conscious, and capable of working on sensitive natural habitats. The broader PEAT+ initiative targets 22 priority peatland sites and aims to recover threatened species including golden plover and large heath butterflies. Interested contractors should register their interest through eTenders NI (reference CfT_6783838).
