Soil Testing and Agricultural Land Classification for Lower Thames Crossing

Balfour Beatty is seeking qualified subcontractors to conduct Agricultural Land Classification (ALC) surveys, soil texture testing, and soil nutrient analysis for the Lower Thames Crossing Roads North of the Thames project. This work involves: - Conducting ALC surveys at new locations, including collecting topsoil samples for texture testing. - Performing soil texture testing at existing sites where data is lacking. - Analyzing soil nutrients through sampling of topsoil and subsoil to support habitat creation, translocation of Ancient Woodland, and agricultural land restoration. Subcontractors must meet specific technical requirements, including: - Compliance with DEFRA ALC guidelines and British Standards (e.g., BS 3882 for topsoil). - Use of accredited laboratories for soil testing (ISO 17025 or equivalent). - Submission of detailed sampling and quality assurance plans. - Coordination of logistics for sample collection and delivery, adhering to health and safety regulations.
