Architect for City of London Police Mounted Unit Facility Development at 52 Aldgate High Street

The City of London Police seeks an Architect to support the design and development of a new Mounted Unit facility at 52 Aldgate High Street in the City of London. The project involves consolidating the vacant plot at 52 Aldgate with neighbouring properties at 50-51 Aldgate High Street to create an integrated operational base. The site location provides strategic advantages including immediate access to the Square Mile for rapid officer deployment, rear access for discreet day-to-day operations, and sufficient space to accommodate horse stabling, welfare facilities, equipment storage, and horse box parking and manoeuvring. The facility design will consolidate all horse welfare and stabling needs in one location while improving operational efficiency and care standards. There is potential to develop commercial accommodation above the proposed stables, subject to feasibility and viability testing, to generate income. The project is currently in the feasibility and site assessment phase, with ongoing engagement with Transport for London (TfL) as the key landowner and stakeholder. Critical work includes investigating underground utilities and transport services, securing accurate service mapping, and identifying operational constraints to inform design parameters and mitigate construction risks. The Architect will support site condition assessment, boundary definition, legal status clarification, and regulatory compliance to establish the foundation for successful planning and delivery.
