Direct Utility Supply Contract for Vacant Properties

Sheffield City Council is seeking to award a contract of up to four years for the direct management and supply of utilities (gas, electricity, water) to vacant residential properties across the city. The Council requires a direct contractual relationship with the utility supplier to maintain operational control, ensure efficient account management, resolve billing disputes promptly, and gain full visibility over property and account data. A preliminary market engagement notice was published on 1 April 2026 with no responses received. British Gas Trading Limited is currently the only identified supplier able to meet these requirements. The contract will cover utility procurement, account management, debt resolution, dispute handling, and operational responsiveness for Sheffield's vacant property portfolio. The Council intends to award this contract to British Gas Trading Limited unless a valid objection is submitted during the standstill period.
