Brief
Poynton Town Council is seeking qualified companies to become its Approved Contractor for street lighting maintenance and upgrades for an initial period of three years, starting from July 7, 2025. The council currently manages 87 streetlights that require both reactive repairs and ongoing maintenance. In the short term, there is a plan to replace nine streetlights and a desire to install solar-powered lights where feasible.
As the Approved Contractor, your responsibilities will include:
- Replacing nine streetlights
- Providing reactive maintenance for faulty streetlights
- Conducting other electrical works, including supplying power to defibrillators
- Installing Christmas light banners and lights on the Town Christmas Tree
- Performing condition inspections of streetlights
Interested contractors must complete the streetlights approved contractor information sheet (Appendix B) with detailed information, including:
- Description of services, personnel, and resources
- Indicative costs, including hourly rates and any additional charges for planned and emergency work
- Response times and other service benefits
- Experience in streetlight work
- Relevant insurances and licenses
- Qualifications and memberships in professional organizations
- Compliance with British Standards
- Risk management strategies related to electrical safety, working at heights, power tool usage, and traffic management
- Environmental and sustainability credentials.
This contract opportunity is limited to Poynton Town Council's streetlights only. Any conditions, including insurance requirements and data provision by the council, should be clearly stated. Contractors should also outline how they will handle service changes, including known costs and notice periods.
Compliance requirements include:
- Staff must hold G39 Category 1 qualifications
- The company must be NICIEC accredited or equivalent, with evidence provided in the quote.
All contractors will be evaluated for inclusion on Poynton Town Council's Approved Contractors List before starting work. Support will be provided during this process, and being on the list will reduce ongoing administrative burdens.
