Digital RNA quantification instrument for radiation research

The UKHSA Radiation Effects Department (RED) seeks to acquire a single-molecule counting and digital quantification system for RNA analysis to strengthen its molecular research capabilities in support of public health protection. RED conducts critical national research on the health effects of ionising and non-ionising radiation, translating findings into policy, guidance, and emergency preparedness strategies. This investment addresses key needs including: rapid and reliable biodosimetry capabilities for radiological emergencies, analysis of increasingly complex molecular datasets, and alignment with internationally harmonised analytical methodologies. The successful system must be robust, capable of advanced molecular quantification, and suitable for integration into RED's existing research infrastructure to support ongoing and emerging public health radiation protection initiatives.
